The town of Los Gigantes is located in the southwest of Tenerife island, connected with the village of Puerto de Santiago in the region del Teide. Los Gigantes is a most popular and highly visited vacation spot in Tenerife with a wide range of activities, shops and a beautiful historic centre. The pleasant climate of Tenerife and the breathtaking scenery of Los Gigantes make this destination a unique place for relaxation and an active vacation.
Los Gigantes are rocky formations reaching from 300 to 600 metres high after which the city is named. The enormous rock overhangs have been created by volcanic activity in the past few million years and carved by erosion to their present form. They are one of the biggest cliff formations in Europe. You can admire them not only from the beach, but also from a wonderful boat trip to get closer and enjoy the sunset with a view over the neighbouring island of La Gomera.
There is an attractive harbour in Los Gigantes, serving mainly as a place for fishing boats and yachts, but also many cruise ships begin their trip right here, so you can have a sea adventure and watch dolphins and whales. Diving lovers can discover unforgettable underwater scenery, especially in the bays between the cliffs. There are diving courses for beginners and advanced divers with even special night dives.
There is a small city promenade full of restaurants and bars close to a small but very popular beach in the city centre of Los Gigantes. The popularity of this beach is mainly thanks to a magnificent view over the giant cliffs and its rough black sand and shallow water which is a suitable place for families with children to swim or snorkel. There is also a public swimming pool nearby.
Los Gigantes is located in a sunny area with many hours of sunshine. Because of the fact that the sea is calmer in the south of the island than in the north, you can try kayak trips from Los Gigantes to Punta Tena by yourself or even experience a guided tour.
